NHRA,NASCAR they wouldn't exist without powerful cars and trucks! From the more compact and reliable and extremely tunable 4 cylinder engines, to the quad turbocharged 16 cylinder engine of the Buggatti Veyron.But raw size and power of the engine is not everything.There are plenty of cars that can out drag a Veyron and they are all about a 1000th the price.
There are superchargers and turbochargers to pound more air into the engine for more cumbustion aka more horsepower. Nitrous Oxide and alcohol injected intake manifolds are becoming more and more popular with the demand for more horses. But once again horsepower is not everything you need an extreme amount of torque if you want to start moving and to keep the tires mounted to the ground.
Over all I would have to say my absolute favorites are the almighty Straight 6's and the good old fashion Big block and small block 8 cylinder engines.The straight sixes come in Toyota Supras aka the KING of tuners.Big blocks usually come in older muscle cars such as Hemi Cudas, Chevelles and Dodge Chargers. And then probably the most tunable engines in the world, perfect for flat out acceleration perfect for the NHRA or just drag racing for fun are the small block V-8's. From the Mustangs 4.6L and 5.0L to General Motors 5.7L Trans AM's and Camaro's, these engines are made to rape.
